WordPress Basics: Tutorials: Formatting Posts & Pages

How to Avoid the Wall of Text Effect

In ways similar to what you might do in word processing, formatting your text is a way to make certain elements stand out from the rest.

It also breaks up blocks of text to make it easier to read and follow along with the gist of the content.

Use Heading Elements for Shaping Content and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

In WordPress you can add various familiar heading elements to lead off sections and sub-sections of text. You can do everything you can do in, for example, Microsoft Word or similar word processing software– all using the Visual Editor on the “Add New Post” and “Add New Page” in the WordPress Dashboard.

Embedding Your SEO Keywords in Heading Elements

Heading level elements (Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 2, etc) are the places to plant your keywords for a particular post.  By placing keywords in the right spots on the page and using the heading formatting, you tell the search engines that these words are important to what you’re writing.  Using this practice will help your posts be found by people who are looking for your content.

Here is a brief video tutorial that shows how to use the formatting functions in WordPress:

Is it time to upgrade your Web site?
If you still don’t have a Web site for your business, then now is a good time to build one. Potential clients and customers are looking for you. Will they find you?

If you’re already online, but your Web site is looking old and tired, then a Web site makeover should be in your near future. If the site you have doesn’t really represent who you really are and what you really do, then it’s time to bring in a designer who “gets” you.

You’ve changed over time. Shouldn’t your Web presence change along with you?
